GALI air starters are designed for starting internal combustion engines and gas turbines. Despite their compact size and lightweight construction, they deliver exceptional power, offering high torque, rapid starting speed, low air consumption, and minimal maintenance requirements. These starters operate within a pressure range of 3 to 4 MPa (30 to 40 bar), with maximum and minimum working pressures varying based on installation conditions. Their fast response and high-speed performance enable engines to reach ignition speed almost instantly, enhancing starting efficiency. Requiring no external lubrication, GALI starters eliminate the need for external pump lubricators, ensuring a cleaner, more environmentally friendly installation that is easier to maintain. They are also highly resistant to humidity, saline environments, vibration, and extreme temperatures. GALI starters are widely used across many industries, including marine propulsion and auxiliary engines, generator sets, conventional and nuclear power plants, military applications, locomotives, offshore operations, and mining. Introduction Air Starters The only starter on the market to operate directly at 30-40 bar and thus eliminate the need for problematic reduction valves. Wide range of different models available to start engines with up to 12,000 kW and more. The Gali R&D department independently designs and develops all components of the air starters. They use proprietary technology to engineer critical parts, including rotors, crowns, shafts, main valves, and servo-lockers ensuring maximum reliability and durability. To enhance performance and longevity, only high quality, corrosion resistant materials are used in manufacturing these products. Research & Design 1 www.jbj.co.uk/air-starters #DriveLineHarmony

Only GALI engagement systems can guarantee the precise synchronization and harmonization of the torque needed to engage two starters simultaneously. Other systems not manufactured by GALI are notorious for causing broken gear rims. The torque is produced as a direct result of the pressure on the rotor side, obtaining the best results in initial compression and breakaway, which always ensures initial starting even under adverse conditions. GALI Twin Starters - to start engines greater than 12,000 kW Introduction Air Starters GALI Starting System by Rotors Simple and Easy Assembly Fully Integrated The main and solenoid valves are incorporated in the starter body. Versatile The inlet pipe and independent flange facilitate installation. Lighter in weight Made of aluminum. Easy to mount on existing engine brackets. 2 www.jbj.co.uk/air-starters #DriveLineHarmony

Enables the use of soft ring gears and eliminates the need for chamfering (same gear rim for CW and CCW rotation engines) thereby reducing costs for engine manufacturers. Also completely avoids the problem of damaged crowns. No chamfer machining necessary. The power and pressure required to start an engine depends on the engine's technical characteristics such as the bore and stroke of the pistons, the number of crown teeth, the compression ratio, and the engine torque resistance in addition to the working temperature conditions and the specific characteristics of each installation. For all Diesel, Dual Fuel & Gas Engines. Slow Turning is the best solution to prevent engine water stroke due to water or oil leakage inside the cylinders. Saving cost and problems to operators and final costumers. Slow Turning Starting System Air Starters Very Easy & Safe Working Concept Initial turning stage at low speed to check for anomalies. If any adverse conditions are found, the starting sequence is stopped. If not, the starter will accelerate the engine to start it. This safety starting system detects the presence of condensates inside the cylinder heads: » Allows the engine to stop immediately if required. » Allows the engine not to exceed a certain speed during the safety checking process. » Protect the important engine parts like piston, rods, bearings, etc. 11 www.jbj.co.uk/air-starters #DriveLineHarmony

Software The system can be adapted to different engines. » Possibility to set the slow turning speed (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40,… rpm). » Possibility to choose the slow turn duration: by time (seconds) or by number of engine turns. » The customer can select the type of start (slow turn, slow turn + normal start, normal start). Electronic card Performs the electronic control of the system with the input from the inductive sensor. » Voltage 24 VDC. » Easy to install to the engine’s ECU. » Alarm outputs, start attempt counter… Slow Turning Starting System Air Starters Operation principle It consists of a variable torque supplying from the starter to the engine. The starter will stop giving torque when the set point slow turn speed is reached and will provide torque again when the speed starts to decrease below the set point. This will result in a constant speed rotation of the engine. The system’s input is the engine speed from an inductive sensor placed on the engine ring gear. Engine Speed Slow turn stage (60 rpm) t = 12 seconds Normal start Engine to idle speed 12 www.jbj.co.uk/air-starters #DriveLineHarmony

Applications The Hydraulic Starters are mainly used to start diesel engines generally emergency sets for marine, oil and gas, off-shore, etc. Advantages Very reliable as an emergency starting system, because it is a closed and independent circuit with few mechanisms. The hydraulic starting unit can be activated manually so it is a solution when there is no external energy available (black start). It can be used under extreme environmental conditions just using the suitable hydraulic oil. Unaffected when stopped for long periods of inactivity, even being under damp and hostile environmental, due to its closed ad sealed design that don’t allow the entrance of dirt for it. The unit is always ready to start the engine. Very low maintenance required. Easy assembly on the engine by frontal flange. How is the energy supplied to the starter? The starter gets the power from the oil contained in the hydraulic unit. This equipment includes a tank with oil and N 2 accumulator with the compressed gas and it may incorporate an electric pump or hand pump (manual), or both. The hydraulic unit compresses the oil until 210 bar and this oil goes into the starter forcing the movement of the hydraulic motor. We can adapt the whole system according customer technical specifications. How it works The oil goes into the starter and activate the hydraulic motor. The pistons start moving the disc and that transforms the linear movement into circular one which is transmit to the inertia friction clutch. Inertia friction clutch’s pinion turns. » Special guillotine design. » Extremely fast closing process. » Easy installation and handling. » Very compact design. » Operating temperature range -20°C to 230°C. Main Features Potentially present hydrocarbons in the atmosphere can be a problem when attempting to make a controlled stop of an internal combustion engine. These hydrocarbons may be sucked in by the engine air intake system producing acceleration and loss of speed control with the subsequent risk of explosion or deflagration. Standard stopping methods (eg. shutting of the fuel flow) may be quite useless, leaving the engine running without any possibility of stopping. The GALI valve allows the automatic closing of the engine’s air intake, increasing safety in places such as offshore oil platforms, ship engine rooms and petrochemical refineries and plants. Electric motor – Hydraulic Pump Adaptors (hazardous area) Designed to meet the exacting safety standards of the offshore and chemical process industries, jbj Techniques produce certificated to adaptor kits Directive 2014/34/EU II2GD-IM2-TX -50 C< Service Temp < +105 C. Harmonised standards BS EN 1127:1, BS EN 13463:1, BS EN13463:5, BS EN 50303, BS EN 1834-1,BS EN 1834-3. Generally manufactured in Cast or Nodular iron, bellhousings can be produced in steel, stainless steel or alternative exotic materials on customer request. Couplings supplied for these applications are the jbj Techniques 'JXL' pin and bush range which provide an anti-static and flameproof drive which meet zone 1 area requirements, conforming to all of the above standards. Also available are spider and gear couplings which are certified to zone 2 standards. (Contact jbj Techniques for details). An important development of equipment for use within hazardous areas is the wet mount series of bellhousings. Commissioned to research and develop a product that would control the high temperature generated by a piston pump shaft seal when working within cycling applications. A little considered issue is the frictional heat generated at the shaft seal when the application requires the pump to cycle between different pressures causing the seal temperature to increase. This process will often take the seal temperature out and above the levels required by the relevant ATEX standards requirement. This specially designed assembly allows a pumped cooling flow to be passed over the seal face and through an auxiliary cooler, this in turn reduces the seal face temperature which can be maintained at an acceptable level. With a vast array of components to select from, jbj are well placed to provide all required components to support the required cooling system. Diesel Engine – Hydraulic Pump Adaptors A complete range of bellhousing and couplings exist for the connection of a diesel engine flywheel to a specified driven component, be it an oil hydraulic pump, water pump, generator or similar device. With the bellhousing available in various materials to suit all application areas. With a standard range to connect Diesel engines with SAE dimensions from SAE '6' to SAE '0' jbj are well placed to satisfy the majority of customer requirements. Couplings to complete the assembly are available in either torsionally flexible or torsionally rigid design ad can be supplied to suit SAE flywheel dimensions from SAE 6.5” to SAE 18”. For hydraulic pumps to be mounted to engines that do not conform to SAE dimensions, we offer a full range of assembly parts, some of which (but not all) are shown here » for diesel engines All bellhousings within this range can be finished machined to accept any, piston, vane or gear pump interfaces requested by customer. As with the electric motor range of product jbj offer complete solutions for ATEX environments, using our well proven 'JXL' coupling range which has standard design to connect to the engine flywheel. Directive 2014/34/EU II2GD-IM2-TX -50°C ≤ Service Temp ≤ +105°C. Harmonised Standards: BS EN 1127:1 BS EN 13463:1 BS EN 13463:5 BS EN 50303.
